How to change the auto-logout time on HP, Konica Minolta and Lexmark printers

When a user logs in at a printer with the Print Director embedded app and then stops using it, the printer logs them out after a period of inactivity. A short timeout stops the next person using the printer as the previous user, if that user walked away without logging out. A longer one gives users more time between tasks.

The timeout is a setting of the printer itself, changed in its web interface.

HP FutureSmart

  1. In a web browser, open the printer’s web interface and sign in as administrator.
  2. Click General, then under Control Panel Customization, click Display Settings.
  3. Enter the timeout in Inactivity Timeout and click Apply.

Konica Minolta

On Konica Minolta printers, the System Auto Reset time is the timeout: after that much inactivity, the panel goes back to its first screen, and a user who is already on it is logged out. It is 1 minute by default.

  1. In a web browser, open the printer’s web interface and log in as administrator. (You can also change this at the printer panel, in the administrator settings.)
  2. Click System Settings > Reset Settings > System Auto Reset.
  3. Enter the number of minutes in System Auto Reset Time and click OK.

If the System Auto Reset function is turned off, users are always logged out after 1 minute.

Lexmark

On Lexmark printers, the Screen Timeout is the timeout. It is 60 seconds on a new printer.

  1. In a web browser, open the printer’s web interface (for example https://192.168.10.10).
  2. In the menu on the left, click Settings > Device, then expand Preferences.
  3. Enter the timeout in Screen Timeout and click Save.

The Screen timeouts on the General tab of a Lexmark device’s controller settings in Resource Manager are different: they set how long Print Director’s own screens, such as the job list or a message, stay open. See Lexmark Integrated controller settings.
