Konica Minolta Integrated controller settings

Konica Minolta Integrated controller settings

These are the settings for a shared device whose Controller Type is Konica Minolta Integrated: the Print Director embedded app on a Konica Minolta device. For the device’s other settings, see Shared device settings.

To open them, edit the shared device (Print Management > Shared Devices, double-click the device) and click Controller. Below Controller Type are the Remote panel link, which opens the device’s remote panel in a web browser, and the settings tabs: General, Printing, Authentication, Billing, Cards and Initialisation.

Some settings are stored in the embedded app on the device. When you change one of them, Re-initialisation required! appears beside Remote panel: initialise the device again (see Initialisation) for the change to reach it.

General

Primary server

The PDServer the embedded app connects to.

Setting Description
PDServer host name The device’s managing PDServer (set on the shared device’s General settings).
Host or IP The address the device uses to reach that PDServer. Click Resolve to list the server’s addresses, then choose the one the device can reach. Used when Destination URI is blank.
Destination URI The full address of the PDServer, if it is different from the default. Click Default to fill in the default.

Secondary server

Tick Secondary server to give the device a second PDServer. When a user logs in, the device tries the primary server first; if it gets no answer within the connection timeout (see Connection), it tries the secondary server instead of showing a connection error. Choose the PDServer (click … to search), then set its Host or IP and Destination URI as above.

Workflows

Setting Description
Workflow profile The set of workflow tiles shown on this device’s panel. Click … to search. See Workflow Profiles.
Allocate advanced workflow licence Gives the device one of your advanced workflow licences. The number still available is shown.

Screen saver

Setting Description
Set screen saver Leave unchanged, Install screen saver or Remove screen saver.
Screen saver The screen saver to install. Click … to search.

Printing

Secure release

Tick Enable Secure Document Release so that jobs wait (on the PDAgent or the PDServer) until the user logs in at the device and releases them.

Setting Description
Follow me printing Enabled lets jobs sent to any queue matched to a follow-me device be released at any follow-me device in the same pull print group. Disabled means jobs can only be released at the device their queue is matched to.
Pull print group Limits follow-me printing to a group of devices, for example colour devices and mono devices, or devices with compatible drivers. Click … to add or delete groups.
Release method Individual selected release shows the user a list to choose from. Release all after login prints all their jobs as soon as they log in.
Auto open job list Shows the job list as soon as a user with waiting jobs logs in. Otherwise they tap Release Job on the panel.
Stay logged in Keeps the user logged in after releasing jobs.
Show message after release Shows a confirmation after jobs are released.
Release jobs in order of The order of the job list: by submitted date, alphabetical, total pages, file size or total cost, each ascending or descending.
Show mono or colour Show all jobs, Only show colour jobs or Only show mono (black & white) jobs. On a mono device, showing only mono jobs stops users releasing colour jobs there by mistake; on a colour device, showing only colour jobs keeps mono jobs for cheaper mono devices.

Tracking method sets how printed jobs are recorded:

  • Enhanced server counter notification (recommended): the embedded app reports what was actually printed. It is close to 100% accurate, and jobs carry authentication, so nobody can print directly to the device without Print Director. It needs valid User Authentication / Account Track settings in each user’s printing preferences, unless Override driver authentication by inserting into datastream is ticked, which adds them automatically. Keep that box ticked. Not supported on devices with a Fiery controller.
  • Datastream interpretation: Print Director reads the print data as it passes through the matched queues. Jobs are not authenticated at the device, and tracking is less accurate when a job is deleted after leaving the queue, or for colour detection. It requires User Authentication to be disabled in the driver and Print Without Authentication set to Allow on the device. Use it for devices with a Fiery controller, or for 1200 dpi printing.

Authentication

Authentication type

Setting Options
Identification method Keypad login only (no card swipe screen), Card or keypad login (card swipe screen with a manual login button) or Card only (manual login disabled).
Password requirement Only with keypad login (a swiped card logs in without a password), Always required or Never required.
Authentication field The user field the login is matched against: Controller User ID only (PIN), Login Name (AD Account) only, or Controller User ID or Login Name (AD Account).

User name input

Setting Description
User ID input Type only keeps user names private. Type or select shows a list of users to pick from. Type or search lets users search. The second drop-down sets the size of the panel buttons: Large buttons, Medium buttons or Small buttons.
User ID label The label shown for the field on the panel. Tick Hide chars (*) to show asterisks instead of the characters, for example when the user ID is used like a PIN.

Non-authenticated transactions (e.g. public or operator jobs)

Jobs that nobody logged in for, such as configuration pages printed from the device menus, scan or fax logs, and copies or scans allowed without login. Tick Record as user and choose the user (click … to search) to record them; otherwise they are not recorded.

Tick Change setting to set the device’s own print-without-authentication setting:

  • Restrict: only jobs that carry valid authentication print, so every job is recorded.
  • Full Colour or Black only: jobs without authentication still print, in colour or in black and white only.

Billing

Billing fields are used with the PD Pro licence, to bill print, copy, scan and fax transactions to accounts and matters. Where the fields appear on the panel is set in the Advanced KM Integrated settings (see Panel behaviours).

Account Code

Setting Description
Account requirement No Account Code entry hides the account and matter fields, so transactions are billed by each user’s auto-billing setting. Account Code required, Account Code optional, or User setting (follow each user’s popup setting).
Account Code input Type only, Type or select or Type or search, and the button size.
Field label The name shown on the panel, for example Project if your site bills to projects.

Matter Code

The same settings as the account code: Matter requirement (No Matter Code entry, Matter Code required, Matter Code optional or User setting), Matter Code input and Field label.

Comment requirement

Transaction comment adds a comment field to the panel. The comment is recorded against the user’s transactions, shown in detailed reports, and can be used when exporting to legal billing systems: No comment field, User setting, Comment optional or Require comment. A comment entered in the print popup on the user’s computer takes precedence.

Cards

Setting Description
Self-register cards What happens when someone swipes a card that is not yet assigned to a user: Not allowed, or the card is registered once they identify themselves with PIN & password (AD or internal), PIN only or AD username & password.
Byte conversion method How the card reader’s data is turned into a card number: Detect byte conversion, Treat bytes as literal numbers, Bytes are ascii codes for hex characters, Keyboard wedge codes for hex characters, Keyboard wedge codes for decimal characters or Keyboard wedge codes for string.
Data ordering Normal or Reverse bytes.
Start bit and Bit length Which bits of the data form the card number.

To set up a reader, initialise the device, swipe a few cards, then click View swipes to see how the data is read. If you know what a card’s number should be (printed on the card, or from an access control system), adjust the conversion, ordering and bit settings until the same number is extracted.

Initialisation

Initialising installs the Print Director apps on the device with the settings above. If you change a setting stored on the device afterwards, initialise again.

Item Description
Admin password The device’s administrator password.
Product name The device model, read from the device. SSL and HD show whether the device uses SSL and has a hard disk.
Auto-initialise Lets the PDServer initialise the device automatically: when you click OK + Refresh All, and on the schedule set under Scheduled check & init in the Advanced settings.
Advanced settings Opens the Advanced KM Integrated settings window (below).
Gather info Connects to the device and lists the apps already installed, with their No, Name, Application Type and Function Version.
View detailed info Shows the full information read from the device.
Delete application Removes the selected app from the device.
Initialise now Installs the Print Director apps.

To initialise a device:

  1. Enter the Admin password and click Gather info to check that Resource Manager can reach the device.
  2. If apps that would conflict are listed, select each one and click Delete application.
  3. Click Initialise now, and check the output box below the list: it shows whether each stage succeeded. If a stage failed (for example a timeout), delete the apps and try again.
  4. Click OK + Refresh All, then test by logging in at the device panel.

If the device cannot connect, check that the PDServer service is running, that no firewall blocks port 50002, and that the device was initialised with the right PDServer address.

Advanced KM Integrated settings

Click Advanced settings on the Initialisation tab.

Connection

Setting Description
Scheduled check & init How often the PDServer checks the device’s settings and, with Auto-initialise ticked, initialises it again when needed: No scheduled auto-init, Every PDServer refresh, Hourly, Daily or Weekly, with an Execute time and Day of week where they apply.
Log device address problem, Log connection failure, Log failure to get information, Log app or device setting change required Which problems found during the check are logged.
Connection timeout (Open API settings) How many seconds the device waits for an answer from the PDServer before showing an error or trying the secondary server. 20 by default.
Override max function versions when initialising Forces a specific version of the Setup, Auth, General Browser, PullPrint or Screen saver function. For troubleshooting only.
Update the Device IP using receiving IP from embedded app When the device connects, compares its address with the shared device’s Host or IP and updates it if the device’s address has changed, for example through DHCP. Untick it if the device connects through a router using NAT, otherwise the router’s address would be saved.
Allowed SSL protocols for client connections to printer Keep Use system default setting ticked. Choosing protocols yourself (SSL 3, TLS 1.0 to TLS 1.3) is for troubleshooting only.

Panel behaviours

Billing information requests

  • Place billing fields on: Initial screen (no 2nd screen) puts the account, matter and comment fields on the login screen. Second screen (after login) shows them after the user logs in. The second screen has advantages: users whose popup setting needs no billing are logged straight in; card users can swipe first and then enter billing details; and account searches only show accounts the user has access to. Exclude User accounts and Exclude Department accounts apply to that search.
  • Always request billing info even when jobs are available for release that already have billing info: without it, a user whose waiting jobs already carry billing details from the print popup is not asked again, so copies, scans or faxes made in that session are not billed to an account. Tick it to always ask.
  • Allow job release with incomplete billing info: lets a user log in with a blank account code, but only to release jobs. Billing details from the print popup always take precedence. Users whose account and matter are set to optional need not enter them at all, so most sites no longer need this setting.

Once a job has been released, the printer does not refuse it because of its matter. A job whose matter is missing or has been disabled since it was released is billed to the user’s auto-bill matter, or to no matter if the user has no usable one. The account is still checked: a job whose account has been disabled, or that the user may not bill, is refused by the printer.

PD Pro settings

  • Don’t show account balance on printer panel: leave unticked for student billing, so users see their balance after logging in; tick it for client billing, where balances are not relevant.
  • Zero balance setting: what a user whose balance is zero can do at the panel. Do not allow login stops them logging in. Allow zero cost jobs lets them log in, but only for functions that cost nothing, such as scanning at sites that do not charge for it. Leave unchanged keeps the device’s current setting.

Panel searching (e.g. users or accounts)

  • Search method: Contains (searching son finds Johnson) or Starts with.
  • Search field: Primary object ID field, Object name, or Object ID and name. The ID and name are the Controller User ID and full name for users, the account code and name for accounts, and the matter code and name for matters. Searching names as well helps when codes are hard to remember.

Panel texts: the Apps button label (shown under the Release Job app), Auth screen title (above the login buttons), Auth app name (while a login connects to the server) and Pull app name (while the release app connects, and in the Apps menu when the device has more than one OpenAPI app).

Public User

The device’s Public User lets people use some functions without logging in, for example scanning to email. Set Public User changes the device setting:

  • Disable Public User: everyone must log in.
  • Enable with login: the login screen has a Public User Access button. It is only available while Login without Print is selected on the login screen, so unless that is the default, users tap Login without Print first.
  • Enable login by default: the device starts as the Public User, with no login screen. To log in, a user must first tap Logout.
  • Do not change: leaves the device’s current setting.

When the Public User is enabled, choose its allowed functions. Print, Copy, Scan, Fax and TX Document Print can each be Full colour, Black only or Not Allowed, and Scan to USB, Read from USB, User Box, Manual Destination Input, Web Browser (with File Upload and File Download) and Mobile Reception can each be ticked.

See How to enable the Public User on Konica Minolta printers.

Device settings

Scan-to-Home: the User name and Password the device uses to save scans to users’ home folders. The account must have write access to every user’s home folder. Users whose home folder is set (by hand or by LDAP or Entra ID sync) then see a Home button in the device’s address book.

Server Down: on devices that support it, the embedded app can keep working when it cannot reach any PDServer.

Setting Description
Cache user info to allow login when server is down Users who have logged in recently can still log in, copy and scan while the server is down. They cannot release jobs from their computers, but can print from a USB drive. Transactions are uploaded when the server is back.
Keep cached info for How many days a login is remembered (30 by default).
Limit offline balance to For users with a credit limit, the amount they can spend while the server is down, per user. Users without a credit limit are not limited.
Top screen message and Attention screen message The messages shown on the panel while the server is down.

See How to allow login on Konica Minolta printers when the PDServer is unavailable.

Native print formats

The file formats the device can print directly when printing from cloud workflows. PDF is always on; tick JPEG, TIFF and XPS if the device supports them. Other formats are converted to PDF before printing.
